Awww, the lil princess looks adorable! Nice job on the haircut, Sonya! The last time I let my sister cut Noelle's bangs, she did this awful technique where she twists and then cuts the hair. Awful, just awful. Noelle thought she looked like Katy Perry, though--and to her, that was a GOOD thing. So I let it go. And decided to never trust someone with scissors who says, "Just watch, I do it this new way."

Because I love those soaked Wardeh muffins so much, I would break my father-in-law's cardinal rule and sully up those figs by using them in that recipe. Unfortunately, our fig season was extremely short this year (as in, only about a week!). They went bad on the trees really fast and we ended up with what looked like a tree full of oversized raisins. We think it was because we had such a rainy, mild spring and then in early June, we had those few days of sudden, intense heat. Therefore, they had a slow growing time, and then the heat ruined them before they were ready to be harvested. Also, the birds somehow found their way into the netting and contributed to the demise. Sad. So sad. I'm glad you were able to put yours to use. Yours look different--ours are the green kind, whereas yours are the black figs. Remo said that's what they were like in Brazil, where they had them on their breakfast buffet every morning. Our trees roots literally stem from a tree in Italy that Remo's dad's friend brought back. I forgot to mention that in my blog. Thanks for the mention! :-)

Awww, they always look so much older with the summer boy cuts. Except for some reason, it makes Kellen look a little younger? He looks more like you every day, Kerrick is Shawn and Keillor and Kennah are a total mix of the two of you. I'm guessing the "princess" doesn't get a summer cut? :-)

Cute! I'll be glad when it's time to let it all grow back, too, because that means the heat will be leaving us!

Jeff—I remember your house fire, and I can only imagine how devastating it was. Thanks for your encouragement and your prayers! Yes, these are challenging times for the Hemmings Half Dozen, but I know we will come out of it stronger and wiser and more tuned in to the needs of others around us. It is great to have great friends!

Sonya, You obviously have wonderful and caring friends. What a great gift. Several years ago we were going through some difficult times after a house fire. The help and prayers of our many friends got us through it. I now look back on those days and think about the many lessons it taught us rather than the challenges we had to endure. I hope that your current challenges are brief. I will say a few extra prayers for you.
