25 Carols of Christmas: No. 4
Vince Gill serenaded us yesterday, so it’s fitting that the voice of his wife, Amy Grant, would begin our day today. Her album Home for Christmas features what is probably my favorite Christmas song ever: Breath of Heaven (Mary’s Song). I can’t listen to this one without tearing up a little, wondering what it must have been like to be the mother of the savior of all mankind. A lot of artists sing this song (including some male vocalists—even Vince Gill!—which is a little disconcerting considering that the lyrics are supposed to represent Mary in the first person), but Amy Grant’s version tops them all, in my humble opinion. Our family just watched The Nativity Story, the realistic movie portrayal of the birth of Jesus, so this song feels particularly poignant right now. Click the audio player button below to hear it. I hope it touches your heart, too!
